This crossword puzzle is for ALL STUDENTS. This puzzle is the first in a series of three puzzles about famous classical Latin authors.

Instructions: You will see a series of descriptions in English. Your task is to supply the name that is required.

Here are the clues:

ACROSS

1. (3rd-4th century C.E.). Christian author of the Divinae institutiones; possibly the author of the poem On The Phoenix.
5. (1st century C.E.). Epic poet who wrote the Argonautica, about the adventures of the hero Jason.
7. (1st century C.E.). Author of six satirical poems, strongly influenced by Stoicism.
9. (1st century B.C.E.). Orator and author of many philosophical and rhetorical works.
10. (1st century C.E.). Agricultural writer, author of De re rustica, along with a brief treatise on trees.
13. (1st century B.C.E.). Poet who wrote odes, epodes, satires and other works in verse.
16. (1st century C.E.). Famous gourmet and a famous Roman cookbook was written in his name.
17. (4th century C.E.). Grammarian and author of the Ars grammatica, which would be a fundamental text in the Middle Ages.

DOWN

1. (1st century B.C.E.-1st century C.E.). Historian, author of a History of Rome in 142 books; 35 of these books have survived.
2. (1st century C.E.). Encyclopedic writer whose only surviving work is a medical treatise, De re medicina.
3. (1st century B.C.E.). Woman poet, writer of elegiac poetry.
4. (1st century B.C.E.). Establish the first public library in Rome.
6. (1st century B.C.E.). Patron of Horace, Vergil and Propertius.
7. (1st century B.C.E.). Author of moral aphorisms; nicknamed "The Syrian."
8. (1st century B.C.E.). Historian, most famous for his account of the Catilinarian conspiracy.
10. (4th century C.E.). Poet famous for his Rape of Proserpine, and also the author of idylls, epigrams and other verse.
11. (2nd century C.E.). Writer and lawyer famous for his The Attic Nights, which is a collection of anecdotes and quotations.
12. (1st century B.C.E.). Soldier and friend of Julius Caesar; perhaps the author of Book 8 of Caesar's Gallic Wars.
14. (3rd-2nd century B.C.E.). Author of the verse Annales, first Roman poet to write in hexameters and elegiac couplets.
15. (1st century B.C.E.). Historian and author of biographies, called the De viris illustribus.
